What makes music good for focus
Lots of music is great to listen to and terrible to work to. Tracks that help you stay on a task tend to share a few traits:
- No vocals. Words compete with the words you are reading or writing.
- A steady tempo. An even pulse gives restless attention something to lean on.
- No surprises. Drops, build-ups, key changes and solos grab attention — exactly what you don’t want.
- Familiar but not distracting. Warm, simple textures you stop noticing after a minute.
- Calm volume. Background level, not foreground. Mindtiq Sounds is mastered quieter than normal music for that reason.
Everything in Mindtiq Sounds is made and selected with those rules — then evened out in loudness, so one track never jumps out over another.
Music that follows your day
Mindtiq gives every day a different focus format, and each format has its own sound:
- Deep Focus for Classic days — warm lo-fi.
- Flow for Ladder and Pyramid days — a steady, gently moving pulse.
- Sprint for Sprint days — a little faster and brighter.
- Deep Dive for 45-minute dives — spacious and slow.
- Mystery for Mystery days — curious, jazzy colours.
- Calm for Gentle days — soft ambient.
- Reset during breaks — light and airy, so the break feels different from work.
The music starts during the 3-2-1 countdown, so the sound itself becomes part of your start ritual. It pauses when you pause, switches to Reset music on the break and stops when you are done. Tracks are saved on your device after the first play, and you can control playback from your phone’s lock screen.
Free or Pro?
The Mindtiq focus timer is free, and free users can play brown noise during bubbles. Mindtiq Sounds comes with Mindtiq Pro: 7 days free, then €2.99 a month or €24.99 a year. Cancel during the trial and you pay nothing. Early subscribers keep their founding-member price.
How to get it: open Mindtiq, go to the Me tab, sign in with Google and choose a plan. Then tap ♪ during a bubble, or pick Mindtiq Sounds under Settings.

Is there a free version?
The focus timer is free, with brown noise as background sound. The one-minute previews on this page are free too. The full Mindtiq Sounds library comes with Pro, which you can try free for 7 days.
Does the music have vocals?
No. Every track is instrumental, without vocals, vocal chops, drops or sudden changes.
Can I play it without the timer?
Mindtiq Sounds is built to follow your focus bubbles: it starts with the countdown and switches to reset music on breaks. It is not a separate music player.
Can I cancel Pro?
Anytime, from the Me tab → Manage subscription. Cancel within the 7-day trial and you pay nothing; after that you keep Pro until the end of the paid period. Changed your mind in the first 14 days? Email hello@mindtiq.com for a full refund.
